The Bijou neighborhood, formerly “Taylor’s Landing” was founded in 1864 by Almon M. Taylor. The name was changed to Bijou with the arrival of the post office in 1888, which operated until 1967. The Bijou neighborhood is one of Tahoe’s oldest neighborhoods and is desirable for its central location and proximity to Stateline and Lake Tahoe!
Divided by the Bijou Golf Course, the Bijou neighborhood has two areas, Bijou 1 and Bjiou 2. Bijou 1 is bordered by Ski Run Ave and Hwy 50. Bijou 2 also runs along Hwy 50 bordering Rufus Allen Blvd, and has easy access to the South Tahoe Recreation Center, Ice Arena, El Dorado County Library and the Campground by the Lake. Just outside of the Bijou neighborhood along Hwy 50 you will find restaurants, retail stores, CVS and Safeway. The Bijou Community Park is a great feature of the area boasting a skate park, bike park, disc golf, basketball and volleyball courts, playgrounds, and a dog park.
Permanent residents and vacationers alike are drawn to this neighborhood for its close proximity to the lake, Stateline casinos and Heavenly Ski Resort. Home prices and styles vary across the board in the Bijou neighborhood from old Tahoe cabins to large modern homes developed in recent years. Ranging from $229,000 to $1,500,000, the median home price is $355,000 and $342,000 in Bijou 1 and 2 respectively. (10/2018)
