The Tahoe Island Drive neighborhood is located between The Y and Tahoe Keys, and there is another small neighborhood next door known as Tahoe Island Park. Many wonder how the Tahoe Island Drive neighborhood got its name when in fact there is no actual island nearby. Before Tahoe Keys was developed in the 1960’s the original plan was for that area to be an island, with a waterway running from 15th Ave to Sky Meadows. Around the time when Dillingham Properties took over the project, the Tahoe Regional Development Agency was founded and the plans were deemed environmentally damaging by TRPA. In an effort to streamline the project, the island plans were scrapped but the Tahoe Island name remained. Tahoe Island Park and Tahoe Island Drive neighborhoods are very close to the Tahoe Valley Elementary School. They are quiet communities yet convenient for running everyday errands with close proximity to the Y. The Tahoe Island Drive neighborhood is also close to the bike trail along Hwy 89 that leads to Pope Beach, Kiva Beach and Baldwin Beach and there are numerous hiking trails along the west shore to enjoy. Home prices range from $175,000 to $700,000 and are an average size of 3 bedrooms and 1400 square feet.
